Living my life in Sheffield - 2010

The world is hoping for the best to come in the year of Tiger- 2010 especially the western side of the world. UK which is one of the worst country hitted by the economic downturn is recovering from this crisis which triggered by the collapse of the subprime mortgage sector in the late 2007. A few big disasters that I remember since the beginning of the crisis includes the collapse of lehman brothers, Bernie Madoff's ponzi scheme, Iceland declares bankruptcy and also the collapse of the banking sector and car industry in the UK . So, unemployment rise drastically and recession. This then forced the British government to ease the crisis by printing more money, namely quantitative easing and thus the fall in the value of the British pound.

Well, I tend to think that the effect of this crisis is not so severe in the South East Asia mainly becuase the local property market and car industry still looks okay to me. Anyway, who am I to judge. I am just being thankful for that I have found a job before the crisis began and manage to keep it untill now. Also, I am really glad that the footsie now reached the same level in Aug 2008 which was when I started my job. Meaning, economy is picking up its pace!

January 2010, the coldest month so far since I came to the UK many years ago. More frequent heavy snowfall than previous years. This resulted a chaos in the transport and travel business. Many flight and train journeys has been cancelled. I myself who only walk to work everyday find it really hard to walk on the snow and in this blardy freezing cold bizzare weather. I do not like snow. I do not like winter. Like everyone else here, I miss all the sunny weather during summer!
